Arriving at the Studio
Your session takes place in my warm, natural light studio in Castle Hill. There's no rush when you arrive.
We'll spend a few minutes helping your little one settle into the space before we begin. Some babies are instantly curious, while others simply need a little time to warm up.
Every child is different, so I always work at their pace. My approach is gentle and baby-led, allowing genuine smiles, curious expressions and natural moments to unfold without pressure.
We Usually Start with Portraits
One thing many parents don't realise is that a cake smash session isn't only about the cake. Before the decorations become covered in icing, we'll usually capture a beautiful collection of portraits while everything is still clean and fresh.

Before introducing the cake, we'll photograph your little one within the styled set while their outfit is still spotless. These clean portraits often become favourites for framed artwork because the focus stays entirely on your baby before the fun and mess begin.
Time for the Cake Smash
Now comes everyone's favourite part, the actual cake smash photoshoot. Some babies dive straight into the cake. Others cautiously poke the icing with one tiny finger before deciding what to do next. Some barely touch it at all. Every reaction is completely normal.
The goal isn't to force smiles or create mess simply for the photograph.
Instead, I gently encourage your little one while allowing their natural curiosity and personality to shine through.
Sometimes the funniest photographs happen when babies decide the balloons, spoon or decorations are far more interesting than the cake itself.
Those authentic reactions are often the images families treasure most. However, if you have your heart set on eager fistfulls of cake, I reccomend familliarizing your baby with the taste and texture beforehand.
Time for the Cake Smash

After Your Session
After your session, your images are professionally edited in the signature Moments In Bloom style.
You'll receive your gallery according to the package you've selected. If your package includes image selection, you'll simply choose your favourite photographs before they receive their final fine-art retouching.
