Hi, I’m Jo
I’m the photographer behind Moments in Bloom, a mum of two little boys, and someone who is painfully awkward on the other side of the camera.

So if you're worried about what to do with your hands, whether your toddler will cooperate, or whether you'll feel “photo ready” — I genuinely get it.
​
I'm pretty relaxed, don't take myself too seriously, and will most likely turn up dressed for crawling around on the floor, chasing children or getting slightly muddy.
​
Please don't mistake my questionable photographer uniform for a lack of good taste. 😂
​​
Because while I may not always look particularly stylish myself, I love styling. I notice colour, beautiful fabrics, texture, light and all the tiny details that make something feel just right.
​
And when it comes to your photographs, I'm much more particular than my laid-back personality might suggest.
Moments in Bloom is about finding the beauty in something while it's still unfolding. Something organic, beautiful and a little ethereal.
Relaxed when photographing. Perfectionist about the result.
I'm very easygoing about what happens during a session.
​
Kids can be kids. Babies can be babies. Nobody needs to perform, and you definitely don't need to know how to pose.
​
We work with whatever happens.
​
Behind the scenes, though, I'm painstakingly particular about your final photographs.
​
I don't believe in throwing a heavy preset over a gallery, rushing through batch edits or using heavy-handed Photoshop to make everyone look unnaturally perfect.
​
Every photograph gets my attention — colour, skin tones, light, composition, distracting details and all the tiny things you probably won't ever notice, but I absolutely will.
​
Retouching is detailed, but restrained.
​
Temporary blemishes, scratches, redness and distractions can be carefully removed, while freckles, skin texture, wispy hair, laugh lines and the little details that give you real character remain.
​
The result is polished, but still human. Artful, without losing the soul of the moment.
​
I want to take what is already real and beautiful about this season of your life — and turn it into art.

I want my photographs to feel like your family — just seen through a more artistic lens.

If you notice the little details, love beautiful colour and texture, feel drawn to the natural world and want something with a little more soul and character than perfectly posed, white-on-white family photography, we'll probably be a very good fit.

The families who find their way to me tend to appreciate beautiful things without needing everything to be pristine or perfect.
​
They want thoughtful styling and beautiful light — but they also want movement, personality and life.
They want their children to look like their children.
​
Beautiful doesn't have to mean beige. And natural doesn't have to mean unpolished.
​
My style is warm, earthy and a little painterly. I'm constantly inspired by nature and the changing seasons — flowering branches, long grasses, weathered timber, unexpected colour or an incredible patch of afternoon light.
​
Sometimes I'll create and style around those elements. Other times I'll simply notice what's already there and use it beautifully.
​
There's thought behind what I create, but the people in the photograph will always matter more than everything I place around them.

Alongside photographing Sydney families, I've been trusted to create imagery for Australian baby and children's brands — from beautiful independent boutiques to household names like Snuggle Hunny.
​
My work has also been featured and published in Australian parenting and photography media, including The Natural Parent Magazine, Lens & Luxe and SheShoots Magazine.
I'm incredibly proud of those things.
​
But at your session, you still get me on the floor making ridiculous noises at your toddler and working with whatever happens on the day.
A few things worth knowing about me
I'm a mum first, so very little phases me.
​
I'm fully vaccinated, including whooping cough, and take the responsibility of working closely with newborn babies seriously.
​
I will probably notice a beautiful flowering tree while driving and wonder whether I can somehow use it in a photograph.
​
I believe children are far more interesting when they're allowed to have a personality.
​
I'll help you choose what to wear, but I'm not going to make your family look like somebody else's Pinterest board.
​
And I'll probably spend far longer editing a tiny detail nobody else would have noticed than I'd ever care to admit.​

About The Studio
My natural-light studio in Castle Hill, Sydney's Hills District, is a calm, welcoming space designed around the way I love to photograph — softly, naturally and without rush.
​
Wall-to-wall windows create beautiful soft light, allowing me to photograph flash free. While warm timber, natural textures and carefully collected pieces give the studio its relaxed, organic feel.
​
You'll also have access to my client wardrobe of 200+ pieces for mums, babies and children, with everything you need to settle in and make yourself at home.
​
A little less like a photography studio, and a little more like a beautiful space to simply be together.
